“These men of the special forces have had other options in their lives, other paths, easier paths they could have taken. But they took the hardest path, that narrow causeway that is not for the sunshine patriot. They took the one for the supreme patriot, the one that may require them to lay down their lives for the United States of America. The one that is suitable only for those who want to serve their country so bad, nothing else matters. That’s probably not fashionable in our celebrity-obsessed modern world. But special forces guys don’t give a damn about that either…..They are of course aware of a higher calling, because they are sworn to defend this country and to fight its battles.” Marcus Luttrell
StandUP4SEALs attended the Hero Summit in Washington, D.C. compliments of our title sponsor Comcast. We had the opportunity to watch the premiere of Lone Survivor. Based on The New York Times bestselling true story of heroism, courage and survival, LONE SURVIVOR tells the incredible tale of four Navy SEALs on a covert mission to neutralize a high-level al-Qaeda operative who are ambushed by the enemy in the mountains of Afghanistan. As a civilian the movie was humbling and jaw dropping. The sacrifice the military and the families behind the soldiers make for our country is a debt that can never be repaid.
The live interview afterwards with Marcus Luttrell was enlightening especially the bravery of the Afghan Muhammad Gulab who helped rescue him and has since paid a very high price for his actions. The act demonstrates the complexity of war. Apparently, Marcus has tried to repay this debt by building a school in the Afghanistan village and it was burned to the ground by extremists. Think about that, not even having the opportunity as a parent to provide a child a chance in life. If that isn’t the opposite of freedom we don’t know what is…
